Trip report January/February 2009
Mother Nature did not cooperate this time.
My last visit had been in May 2008, and I travelled to Sosúa again on 24 January 2009, staying for 2 ½ weeks at the Casa Marina Reef hotel. Many Dominicans and non-Dominicans were sick or had symptoms of flu. I was also unable to escape this entirely.

Eight months after September 2007, I was back in Sosúa again and this time for two and a half weeks. I stayed in the Casa Marina Reef hotel, a three-star resort, which is very comfortable. I was closely observed, not only in the street by Dominicans again, but also in the hotel, by staff and tourists. A woman alone, keeping herself so busy, that is strange.

It was the rainy season and that was evident as I arrived at the airfield of Puerto Plata in the torrential rain in the dark. The plane had landed too early and for this reason I had to wait a while for Garry. In his Toyota bus there were also Judith and Roberto, who came along to welcome me, and we drove together to the hotel near Garry’s house.

Luck was on our side again this summer: Maudie and I were once more able to spend our summer holiday in the beautiful Sosúa. Naturally there was another visit to the Colegio Evangelico Asher school in our plans. Before we began our journey, my sister in particular did her best to collect as much as possible.
